Cultural Universals

Page history last edited by Bill Derry 15 years, 3 months ago

Grade five students explore the meaning of culture as defined by the

Cultural Universals:

  • geographic setting
  • food, clothing
  • shelter
  • family systems
  • political organization
  • economics
  • attitudes toward the unkown
  • communications
  • arts
  • recreation

Through an understanding of the Social Sciences (archaeology,

anthropology, economics, geography, history, political science, sociology and psychology) children learn how to

apply the Cultural Universals model to the study of ancient Egypt, ancient Greece and/or ancient Rome.
